Çimenlik Park

Çimenlik Park is one of the most beautiful places in the center of Çanakkale, which includes the Historical Çimenlik Castle, floating model of the Nusrat Minelayer Ship and the Naval Museum. Çimenlik Castle, located in Çimenlik Park, was built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in 1461-1462 at the narrowest part of the Dardannelles (1253 meters) together with Kilitbahir Castle. Çimenlik Castle consists of two parts, the outer walls and the inner walls. At the entrance of the castle, there is a 15-meter-high round tower. There is also a mosque near the tower. Castle has four floors. Çimenlik and Kilitbahir castles differ in plan from the usual city walls and castles with an inner castle layout. They are purely military structures with special plans designed to defend a certain position. One of the great sailor Piri Reis wrote his famous book “Kitab-ı Bahriye” in this Castle. Kale-i Sultaniye is former name of this castle. Today this castle uses as an open museum. Naval museum which includes uniforms, some parts and findings about Gallipoli Campaign and model of minelayer ship Nusrat which was one of the heroes of Gallipoli campaign also located in this park.

Mirrored Bazaar

Mirrored Bazaar was built in 1890 by Eliyau Hallio, one of the leaders of the Jewish community of the city. Original name of this bazaar is "Passage Hallio". However, due to the mirrors on both sides of the entrance, it is famous as the Mirrored Bazaar. The name of Mirrored Bazaar is also mentioned in Çanakkale's famous folk song "Çanakkale Türküsü". The Bazaar was bombed during the Gallipoli Campaign and was destroyed by fires. The British occupied Çanakkale after the Mondros Armistice Agreement, and used the bazaar as a shelter for their horses, during the occupation (1918-1921). After 1921, it remained in ruins (except for the entrance gate) and was not used. It took its current form in 1967.

Korfmann Library

The building, whose first construction is estimated to be in 1890, has served in many different areas such as church and school until today. It was used as a tobacco warehouse by the Tekel Administration after the foundation of the Republic. The building was restored in 2006 and has been opened as the Korfmann Library since 2007.

Synagogue

The only surviving synagogue of the city is the 200-year-old synagogue still known as Mekor Hayim. The building on Büyük Hamam Sokak, also known as Eski Havra Sokak, was first built as a mansion and later turned into a synagogue. The building was used for military needs during the World War II. It was returned to the congregation in September 1945. After the restoration and internal arrangement works that started in 2003, the synagogue was reopened for worship on 29 October 2005 with a religious ceremony with the participation of former Çanakkale origin people from Istanbul and abroad.

With more than 40 years of experience, Helvacı Kadir Usta has become a brand in the cheese dessert unique to Çanakkale, on Arap İbrahim Paşa Street in the center of Çanakkale.

A Museum and Archive in Çanakkale

The first two floors of the building, whose construction date is not known for sure, is one of the original civil architecture examples of Çanakkale in the 1800s with its functional and architectural details. It is stated that the 3rd floor of the building was built in the Republic Period (1930s). It is known that the building, which has been used as a hotel since 1936, was previously used as a business and once as a military office. It has been serving as a Museum and Archive building since 2009.
Eyüp Görgüler Temporary Exhibition Hall, located on the ground floor of the City Museum, which consists of 3 floors, hosts exhibitions that change every four months. In the first of the 2 fixed exhibition halls on the second floor of the museum where the concept of "History Book" - "City with Memories" is handled; Stories belonging to Çanakkale region mythology are told under the title of "Legends". Information is transferred on the panels of the Antique Period and the Ottoman Period through the data of archeology and historical sciences. In the 1915 Gallipoli Campaign board, the events that happened in the city during the war are presented without using military terminology, using the memories of the witnesses of the period. In the second hall; There are information boards about the city and life in the city from the past to the present, excerpts from the travel books of many local and foreign travelers and academicians' studies on the city. More than 330 inventories are exhibited in the museum.

A Historical Inn

Our natural historical heritage, Yalı Han, dating back to the 1860s, was at the service of the city in terms of depository, garage and accommodation in those years. It is a road crossing inn with its two gates opening to Fetvane Street and Yalı Street. Ahmet Turhanlı, who migrated to Çanakkale from Crete, was the first manager of the inn with original wooden poles. Ahmet Ağa, who continued his business until his death, allocated a room of the inn to roe deer in the 1920s, when the roe deer got hungry, they left the gate of Yalı Street, ate at the grocery store, and later Ahmet Ağa paid the bill. Yalı Han which has this and dozens of similar stories, Heinrich Schliemann, who started the excavations in Troy, stayed for a long time, and the excavation director M. Osman Koffman carried out his work, is a place worth seeing.
With its history dating back to 1800s, the Yali Han, which is among the indispensable values of Çanakkale, is one of the places frequented by tourists with its bookstores and cafes.
